Diamine Inkvent Calendar Day 3

(Susan M. Pigott is a fountain pen collector, pen and paperholic, photographer, and professor. You can find more from Susan on her blog Scribalishess.)

On the third day of Advent Diamine gave to me a tiny bottle of shimmering ink.

Snow Storm is a light gray shimmer ink with silver particles. It definitely reminds me of gray December skies, though snow storms in Abilene, Texas, are rare.

Snow Storm offers some lovely shading (in a flex nib) in addition to the shimmer, which is more noticeable in the ink droplets on the Col-o-ring Card.

The ink looks rather washed out on Rhodia paper, so this is a color you’ll want to use in flex or broad nibs for writing. For art, it will work well as a wash.

I wish Diamine had made Snow Storm a much darker gray so that the shimmer would be more obvious. A darker gray would’ve made this ink more useful for writing as well.

Diamine Inkvent Calendar Day 2

(Susan M. Pigott is a fountain pen collector, pen and paperholic, photographer, and professor. You can find more from Susan on her blog Scribalishess.)

Happy day two of Advent! We’re opening the second door of the Diamine Inkvent Calendar to reveal the next bespoke color: Candy Cane.

Candy Cane is a standard ink color (no shimmer or sheen) that very much mimics the pink/red color of the stripes in candy canes.

The close-up photos below demonstrate that this color has little shading and no sheen.

On Rhodia paper, the ink definitely leans towards pink and is fairly light in finer nibs.

Candy Cane is a cheery red reminiscent of Santa’s rosy cheeks, but it’s fairly light. You might want to use it as an accent color or, for writing, in broader nibs. It will also work well as a wash.

Diamine Inkvent Calendar Day 1

It’s Day 1 of the Inkvent Calendar reveal! Happy Holidays everyone! Every day from today through the 25th Pen Addict will reveal what’s behind each door of the Diamine Inkvent Calendar 2019. If you have the calendar and don’t want the surprise spoiled, don’t open Pen Addict until after you’ve opened the door on your calendar. If you don’t have the calendar and want to enjoy the experience vicariously, come to Pen Addict at 8:00 a.m. each day to see the ink and a brief review.

Day 1’s ink is called Blue Peppermint.

Blue Peppermint is a light turquoise shimmer ink with silver particles.

You can see the shimmer best in the close-up photographs.

Ink testing on white Rhodia paper shows the brightness of the color a little more clearly but the shimmer isn’t as obvious. The ink is fairly light, so using it in broader nibs is recommended. One thing to note about all the 7ml bottles in the Inkvent calendar: the openings are quite small. For the Col-o-ring Cards, I carefully poured some ink into the cap and used a dip pen. I was able to fit Lamy Vista nibs into the bottle, but if you want to use the ink with larger nibs, you’ll have to fill your pen using a syringe or converter.

Blue Peppermint is a gorgeous light turquoise that reminds me of the antique ornaments from my parents’ first Christmas tree. It flows well, dries quickly, and might be the perfect unique color for addressing your Christmas cards.
